Sciatica is a set of symptoms caused by general compression or irritation on one of five spinal nerve roots of each sciatic nerve. Not only pain, the symptoms in sciatica also cover numbness and occasional muscle weakness. The sciatic nerve can be found in hip, buttock, posterior thigh, calf and foot. In case of sciatica, a patient will experience pain in those areas mentioned before. And due to muscle weakness, some patients even say that they cannot walk on their heels or toes.
Sciatica can happen because of some possible causes. The faulty alignment and mechanics of the lower spine and pelvis is reported to be the most frequent cause of sciatica. When the faulty alignment happens, the sciatic nerve will get irritated and thus cause the unbearable pain due to the inflammation. Faulty alignment can happen anytime anywhere, either when you fall from your heel or have an accident. The wrong exercise can also cause this alignment. While all those causes do not happen naturally, sciatica can also happen during pregnancy. This is when the weight of the fetus presses the sciatica nerve every time the mother sits or during the leg spasm.
Sciatica chiropractic treatment is highly recommended to cure sciatica because it is natural and involves no surgery. After having chiropractic, the body is supposed to have the ability to heal itself. Besides, chiropractic is also drug-free, which is safe and absolutely efficient to reduce pain caused by the faulty alignment. The sciatica chiropractic treatment includes several treatments such as ice/cold therapies and spinal adjustment. Ice/cold therapies are done to reduce the inflammation, while the spinal adjustment is done to restore the misalignment of the lower spine and pelvis, which will be able to free the restricted movement and in the end reduce the pain. Besides those two treatments mentioned above, sciatica patients will also undergo stretching/strengthening exercise to improve the spinal mobility.
